Kennedy

On January 20, 1961 John F Kennedy addressed the nation as their new president. Having one by only a slim margin, and being the youngest president, there were numerous doubts about his experience and ability to function as president, but the speech that followed not only reassured their faith in him but also set the mark for when it came to use of rhetoric.
After reading his speech over and over again, the focus on Pathos, or emotion is evident. Kennedy spoke to them not as a Government official but as an optimistic American. He used numerous literary elements that required the listeners to reflect within themselves. He reminded everyone of their underlying core as a human, that the heinous crimes facing the world can only be overcame by the Human Spirit.
