Introduction
Pets help millions of people all over the world in various ways. They are aides for the blind, deaf, or handicapped. Pets are even being used in hospital settings to help the patients feel most comfortable and at ease. Some psychiatric offices are now starting to include pets in their therapy sessions, especially when dealing with children. Programs for troubled teens, including taming horses and training dogs are being used as well. In fact, according to a 2008 survey by the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association, 63 percent of American households include pets. This made me wonder how, exactly, pets help humans and if they could be beneficial to treating those who suffer from depression.
Hypothesis
I believe that if patients diagnosed with clinical depression have daily interaction with that same pet that their symptoms of depression will lessen by at least 25 percent. I think that the......
