What is psychology?
“Know thyself”, are the two most important words in psychology. Psychology is defined as the science of behavior and mental processes. You can break that down into three separate parts; science, behavior, and mental processes. Science is the use of systematic methods used to gather and analyze data and to solve problems. One of the systematic methods is the scientific method. This method is reliable, falsifiable, observable, and repeatable. Behavior is something that is observable. Mental processes are your thoughts, emotions, memories, dreams, etc. Each term used in the definition describe psychology in a hole.
Psychology is a philosophy and a science. Psychology is a science due to mental processes and behavior. A psychologist is a social scientist who studies mental processes and behavior.
