I chose a very unique painting to critique. It was in the Ocean Springs Art Gallery. It is a large painting done sometime between 1990 and now. The painting is two dimensional because it only shows height and width. The picture shows many different lines. It shows sharp lines, thin lines, curved lines, smooth lines, horizontal lines, and even straight lines. The colors in the photograph are very bright. There are lots of warm colors such as reds and yellows. It has a lot of red and green which are complimentary colors. It has a smooth, glossy texture. The dark areas are shown on the top mostly. The light areas are on the bottom. This painting shows a real illusion of depth and distance. The light source comes from the front. It has many shapes such as squares, circles inside of squares, curved shapes on the left, funnels in the center, and geometric shapes all throughout. No passage of time is seen in this work.
