In this essay I will discuss the main features of behaviorism and humanism, the major theorists, their perspectives and their contributions to the field of psychology.

Behaviorists believe Psychology to be the study of behavior not the study of the mind; since we can never observe another person’s mental processes. J.B Watson “the founder of behaviorism” argued that environment molds the behavior of humans and other animals. His goal was to develop principles by which behavior could be predicted and controlled. Watson published his most famous study in 1920, which is known to all as the Little Albert Experiment. Whenever baby Albert was shown a rat, a loud noise was made by clanging a metal bar in an effort to condition Little Albert to fear the rat. After several times of showing the white rat and making the loud noise, Little Albert began to cry whenever he saw the rat, even when there was no noise.
