Like James McBride mentioned on page 51, “ there were two worlds bursting inside of me trying to get out and in order to found out who I was I had to find out who my mother was.” Growing up James did not really know much about hi mother, which meant he really didn’t know himself. However, an autobiography is about ones life and who they truly are. James could not give a complete biography until he discovered the life of his mysterious mother, then he could express the true him.
Ruth was Jewish growing up, but she was very miserably growing up within that custom. From the marriages that were business and not love to the rules she could not stand as a child. However when she met her first husband, who was a black man, he introduced her to Christianity, where she found the closure and guidance she needed from god. Which was important because it impacted the way she raised her children to be fateful and spiritually......
