The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections is an agency in Arizona responsible for handling criminal cases involving minors (under eighteen). The department has jurisdiction over juvenile courts throughout Arizona’s counties. It promotes health, safety and education throughout Arizona. Almost anything in Arizona that has to do with minors, this department handles.
The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections first officially came to be on July 1st, 1990. It was entered in as a cabinet- level agency. In 1912, when Arizona was first a state, the Superior Courts had jurisdiction over all judicial cases. This did not go very well, as the superior court wasn’t very good at handling cases involving minors. A new system was needed, one that would involve specifically juvenile cases. In 1968, the Arizona Department of Corrections was created, which had jurisdiction over all cases in Arizona (adult and juvenile). While this system worked better, it still wasn’t quite good......
