I wake up to the smell of bacon frying on the stove, buttered toast warming in the oven and grits popping onto the floor. “Yes, it must be Saturday,” this is the only day I am guaranteed a piping hot breakfast. I run to the table ready to devour the first meal of the day. Next I bathed and get dress for an adventurous day in the blazing hot sun. The name of my neighborhood is called The Jefferson Place, but to me this place is my own little planet.
As I ran outside my best friend Lauren was waiting for me in our favorite hiding place. She asked, “What took u so long I have been waiting on you all morning!” I brushed her question off as I looked around J spot that is what we called our hiding place. It was in a dark and wet alley behind our building “a home away from home,” I would always say to myself. We loved every inch of it from the old sheets that covered the entrance to the dinner table and chairs we stole from the neighborhood crack head.
