Throughout history males have been the dominant sex in western culture. Think about the male dominance in politics, the hero stories about princes and kings and how the human race, according to the creation story in Genesis, comes forth out of the male Adam, who was created as an earthly representation of God.
However, this dominance does not mean that women haven’t had any influence, or didn’t play an important role throughout history. In fact, there are cultures where women have always had an important role, equal to the men.
If you look at the Iroquois creation story you notice that the first person on the world, as we know it, was, according to the Iroquois tribe, a woman. This woman was conceived in the upper world and fell down to the lower world, which we know as the earth. She gives birth to twins that portray good and evil.
