Semantic Variation-Interference with Colors Linked to Emotions
Abstract
This experiment sought to investigate if colors which are linked to emotions interfere in color naming and the process involved in that interference. Six individuals participated in this experiment. Three subjects were college graduates and the other three were high school graduates. To do this experiment the subjects were first presented with four color cards with the control colors alone (pink, red, green and light blue). On the Second trial the subjects were presented with four color cards as well, but this time the color cards contained common associated words (pink-girl, red-heart, green-grass and light blue- sky). In the third trial the subjects were presented with four color cards as well, but instead the color cards contained common associated emotions. For all three trials the subject had to name the colors and place the card in the correct labeled baskets. The baskets were labeled, pink, green, red......
