Electoral College
The Electoral College has been around for many years and it has helped the United States elect many presidents. The Electoral College was really only the fourth suggestion that the Constitutional Convention came up with. The original ideas consisted of Congress electing the president, state legislatures electing and simply a popular vote of the country’s people. However back then each of these systems had certain flaws. The first two had a high risk of corruption so they were thrown out. The popular vote was thrown out because the powers at be thought the population at large to be incompetent. The Electoral College was the most effective result of their deliberations. Each state has a certain number of electoral votes and the candidate who wins the popular vote for that state takes the states electoral votes.
