In Mark Bowden’s book Blackhawk Down, he writes about the bloody battle in civil-war torn Mogadishu, Somalia between United States Special Forces and Somali militia fighters loyal to Warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid. The United States is the premier power in the world today and it is our responsibility to stand up for people that cannot stand up for themselves. The U.S. lead operation was to eliminate the warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid from power and restore it to the Somali people. The country was in the middle of civil war and millions of Somali people were starving from a lack of food and close to 300,000 people had died as a result. The United Nations was sending food supplies to the people of Somalia; but before it could be given to those who needed it, the supplies were hijacked by clan leaders. Many of the hi-jacked food supplies were traded for weapons, close to 80% of the food supplies never made it to the Somali people.
