By the end of the year, you will see drilling rigs begin to drill for natural gas in Downtown Fort Worth. This will be the first time in industry history where you will see drilling for natural gas occur in a major U.S. city.

Chesapeake Energy, which produces from the Barnett Shale in Fort Worth, will be the first operator to drill in Downtown Fort Worth. Chesapeake is the second-largest Barnett producer, and has taken out most of the competition for downtown lease. Chesapeake representatives make deals with landowners by giving them huge bonuses and high royalty payments to obtain leases.

Lately, urban drilling is occurring more and more often in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. For example, local golf courses, the DFW Airport, and the public school district.
