“Embrace Community”

Farid is implying that Amir has never seen the real Afghanistan. Amir grew up belonging to a small minority of wealthy, privileged people who never had to deal with any problems of everyday life. So, in a sense, Amir “won the lottery” when he was born. He was born into a wealthy family with a well-respected father. Amir never had to witness the agony and hard work that many families did just to survive. He was isolated from the rest of society by his financial status. I think that Kabul Farid makes a good point when he tells Amir that he has always been a tourist. Tourists are “visitors,” they are there temporarily and usually for leisure. Because of Amir’s wealth and status in society he was able to escape when things got bad enough, instead of staying like the underprivileged and less fortunate had to do. Amir experienced a great amount of leisure growing up in Afghanistan, while the gate surrounding his multi-level house made him oblivious......
