Journal Assignment #2: Deception

It is difficult to know whether a person is lying or telling the truth. Even if people study behaviors of how people act when they are lying, it is still difficult to be correct about our assumptions. There is very interesting information in the article I read about detecting deception and the accuracy of being able to tell if it’s a lie or a truth. One of the interesting things I found in the article was that not even professionals succeed on being able to tell if a person was lying or not. This means that not even people with experience are able to be accurate about detecting deception.
In some studies to detect deception the results were that most of the time people believe most of the things they hear (Depaulo, 1994). In the studies most of the people who were listening to videotapes about people telling lies and truths most of the time thought that people were telling the truth rather than lying.
