Atomic Structure and Electron Configuration
The atom is the basic particle in every substance present on earth. It is known as the building blocks of all matter. Each element has its own specific atom that has its specific characteristics and chemical reactions. Atoms of two different elements are never exactly alike. However several atoms exhibit similar characteristics and similar chemical reactions. These elements are put together in several Groups in the periodic table. E.g all elements in Group 1 will have a distinct pattern in their chemical reactions and appearance but are very different to Group 2. This is due to their sub-atomic structures of which the basic structures will be discussed below.
The atom is made up of two basic 'sections'. One is the nucleus. The nucleus constitutes of two particles- protons which are positively charged and neutrons which have a neutral charge. The masses of both particles are almost the same. One would immediately think that the......
