Introduction
James Ross Wilson and Stan LeRoy Wilson (2001) define popular culture as the culture of everyone in society (p. 4). Popular culture includes the patterns of activity and symbols related to these activities that are common and most widely accepted by society. It encompasses our attitudes and beliefs, habits and actions and in sum is how we act based on our everyday environment. Popular culture is largely determined by mass media and includes information such as news and entertainment that is mass-produced for delivery to the public at large. This paper will examine some popular social, political, personal, and religious trends in popular American culture.
