Racial Discrimination 2

I come from two very different backgrounds. My mother’s family came from England. They colonized in the United States in the mid 1700’s. My father’s family was Cherokee Indians. They lived in what is now North Carolina. I identify more with the Caucasian side of my family. My background and culture is more prominent with the Caucasian side of my family.

My race hasn’t experienced many prejudices. However, it has been very judgmental towards people of different races. Prejudices started when the early settlers came to the United States. They were scared of the Indians and their cultures. With fear came the urge for the white man to dominate the Indians. Eventually the Indians were segregated in to reservations away from their sacred homeland.

Over the years prejudices from whites spread throughout different races. According to Schafer (2006), in the 1800’s laborers were Chinese, Irish, and African Americans. Irish laborers......
