The article that I have chosen involves the issue of police using force. A man named Manuel de Jesus Espina was shot and killed by an officer named Steve Jackson that also worked as a security guard when off duty. The article is about the additional injuries found during the autopsy that suggest the officer did more that shoot Espina. It also mentions the differences in the accounts of the incident.
One of the problems with this incident is the differences in what exactly took place. The incident starts with Espina being found intoxicated by Officer Jackson in an apartment stairwell. After that the two accounts diverge. In the three witnesses’ accounts, Officer Jackson went to arrest Espina and even though he went willingly, Jackson beat Espina. The son came out and begged the officer to stop and the officer shot Espina.
