Eyewitness confidence and their accuracy in relation to similarity of foils.

Although many believe confidence and accuracy are closely related evidence shows that there is a weakness in correlation. A dissociation occurred between subjects' accuracy and their confidence in accordance to the identification of a suspect in a recognition test. Participants were shown a video of a simulated crime event and were later asked to complete a questionnaire. They were asked to identify a character from the crime event and then asked how confident they were of their decision. Results were analysed using t tests, crosstabulations and an ANOVA with graphs to illustrate results. Three hypotheses were put forward.
