The Pure Food and Drug Act of June 30, 1906 is a federal law of the United States that enacted federal inspection of all meat products, and forbade the manufacture, sale, or transport of adulterated food products or poisonous patent medicines. One of literary books responsible for that PFDA, having had an impact on such significant social change in America was Upton Sinclair’s The Jungle. The Jungle is a social protest piece of literature dealing with a Lithuanian immigrant and his family working in Chicago’s Packingtown.
