The momentous play of ‘Henry V’ composed by William Shakespeare, presents an interpretation of an eponymous hero, although in a greatly dramatized and exaggerated form. Shakespeare depicts Henry to be a magnanimous and relentless king in which many facets of him are seen. The soldier, the lover, the friend and the king. This is carried forward by the various literary techniques exploited throughout the play, such as prose and the controversial use of phallic symbol.
Shakespeare creates a very prevailing picture of Henry by using metaphorical imagery in the first prologue of the play.
‘Assume the port of Mars, and at his heels,
Leashed in like hounds, should famine, sword and fire
Crouch for employment.’
