Springer and Associates intends to increase its influence in the island nation of Kava. The company has defined a number of obstacles, challenges, and opportunities presented by this increase; the details were outlined in Part One. This paper will address the choice of decision-making style and steps taken to apply that style.
The democratic and participatory styles are both appropriate to this scenario, as both effectively allow a large number of stakeholders to participate in the decision-making process. Springer and Associates has selected the participatory style over the democratic style because, unlike the democratic style, stakeholders serve in an advisory capacity with the company making the final decision. According to Tannenbaum and Schmidt (1958), the strength of this style is that the decision makers can capitalize on the stakeholders’ firsthand knowledge while still keeping control over the final solution.......
