I believe there is no reason to use the word at all. It is insane that we picked it up to refer to each other when it was adopted (and exists today ) to minimize and vilify us as a people.Einstein said it a while ago..... "Insanity is doing something the same way it has been done and expecting a different result". It is amazing how we as black people are the only ethnic group that uses racial slurs to describe ourselves and then try to excuse it as a "term of endearment". The Jews, Latinos and Asian don't do it so why do we? I don't even think that there is a more offensive word used to describe ANY group of people except this one. Trying to turn this word into a 'good' thing is just like saying, "Now all women can be proud to be called bitches, because we've taken the poison out of the word."
