More Than an Enemy, a Reflection
In the movie Apocalypse Now by Francis Ford Coppola and the novella Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad, Kurtz represents Marlow’s and Willard’s inner darkness. The identification of Kurtz deep meaning can be acknowledged by the curiosity and enthusiasm of Marlow/Willard for Kurtz’s character. On both masterpieces Willard/Marlow show the conflict of feeling forced by society to finish or destroy their dark side, also referring to Kurtz. A portrayal of Kurtz’s relationship with Marlow and Willard remark how they feel empathy towards Kurtz since they feel identified with him. The characters in both works transform from being apparently opposites to a reflection of their darkness.
Willard and Marlow present an interesting behavior by showing enthusiasm and curiosity at the idea of meeting mysterious Kurtz. His curiosity is controlled by the adventurous idea of traveling deep in to the unknown land......
