When an author is writing a novel, one of his/her goals is to evoke an emotion, whether it is sadness, joy, anger or sympathy. This can be done with the combination of the way, in which a passage is written, the event that occurred, characterization, and plot development.
Some novels are really important in life in general, and sometimes a passage within the book is even more important, or in some cases, more popular than the book itself. Something about the way a passage is written makes the current scene/event within the story that much better, even if you rewrote a famous text with the same story, plotline and characters with a normal everyday “storyteller” feel, it wouldn’t be the same. For example, the very last paragraph in William Golding’s “Lord of the Flies” makes me feel sympathetic for Ralph because of the words that Golding uses: “Ralph wept for the end of innocence, the darkness of a man’s heart, and the fall through the air of a true, wise friend......
