In fact, more family problems stem from alcohol abuse than any other source. According to the Substance Abuse & Mental Health Services Administration, 76,000,000 have been affected by alcoholism in their family (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services:Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services ). This means that one out every four families is affected by this disease in one way or another.
As an alcoholic’s drinking increases and takes over their life, it also assumes a role in everyone’s life. Family and loved ones are forced to ignore their own needs and focus on the functioning of the family as a whole. Alcoholism brings chaos into the family. In order to compensate for the chaos, each family member adopts a rigid role that will enable the functioning level of the family.
