In Mary’s case there are many ethical issues present. Mary has knowingly ignored her parents’ addictions for years and now she has become worried that they are getting farther into trouble and soon may come to a point of no return if they are not helped. If they are not confronted and made to change their habits they may not to around any much longer for herself, brother, his wife, and kids. She doesn’t want to live the rest of her life in fear for her parents’ health. She has tried to stay out of it, but it has come to a point where she can not stay that way for much longer.
The central ethical issue being; how should Mary deal with this situation without over stepping her boundaries as their daughter and hurting her parents? She is worried about how her possible actions might affect her relationship with her parents. Will they resent her for interfering in their lives? Will she loose their trust? How will it affect her older brother, his wife, and their two......
