The Classical Age: Science and Government
During the Classical age of Greece, advances in governmental structures and the ideas of religion and science led the Greeks to become one of the most influential civilizations of all time.
One of the main advances of Classical Greece was that of a democratic system. First instituted and created by Clisthenes in 508 b.c.e, this system of a representative council directly influenced the basis of all democracies in the future. One aspect of this system that has been seen in today’s world of this democracy included 500 men who made decisions on issues of war, peace and public policy by majority vote, which is much like the United States congress or the British Parliament.
