The Terminal



When Viktor first meets with officer Dixon, there is an obvious language barrier. Officer Dixon squishes a bag of chips, to try and get Viktor to comprehend what is happening to his country. This barrier also affects Viktor when his country is on the news. Later on in the film, Viktor overcomes this barrier using travelogues and television commercials.
In another scene, the baggage handler invites Viktor to play cards. The airport janitor perceives Viktor as some sort of secret agent. So all the men negotiate a way to show him Viktor is not. They put him through an X-ray machine, to come up with a shared agreement.
The scene with Amelia is where I saw empathy. When the security questioned her about Viktor, she realizes that he lives at the airport. Afterwards, Viktor shows her what is in the planters can.
