On the morning of December 27, 2001 Douglas Faneuil, an assistant stock broker at the New York office of Merrill Lynch, received a phone calls from Samuel and Aliza Waksal regarding their ImClone stocks. The Waksals were urged to sell all the shares of stock they owned in the company. Since Faneuil had only been in the job for six, he decided to call for assistance from another Merrill Lynch employee, Peter Bacanovic. Bacanovic immediately instructed Faneuil to make an urgent phone call to one of Bacanovic’s own clients, Martha Stewart, regarding the selling of the Waksals’ stock. When Stewart received the message, she quickly ordered the selling of her stocks as well. This chain of events violated Merrill......
