The topic that I am studying is the socioeconomic effect of juror decisions in criminal cases. I want to find out how someone’s wealth can affect the outcome of what the jury decides in a criminal case. Most people that are considered to be in the upper and middle classes can usually afford more expensive lawyers than someone who is in the lower class. When someone is able to get more expensive lawyers, these lawyers spend more time and work harder on these cases. This results in a person with more money receiving a lot better treatment. Someone in the lower class is more likely to have a public defender that does not study the cases previous to the trial and is not prepared to give a member of the lower class sufficient help. I also want to look harder in how these outcomes come about. I also want to find out if race is involved with the outcome of some cases. If there is an African American being tried and......
