I want to write about John Hancock to use for the new stamp because I truly believe he deserves it because he was one of our greatest Americans and the first person to sign his name on the Declaration of Independence which demonstrated his courage and loyalty to his country and also because most people would know right away who it is if it’s on the stamp they purchase. I want to tell a little about John Hancock and a little about his life. John Hancock was born and raised in Braintree, Quincy, Massachusetts, on January 12, 1737 and died on October 8, 1793; so he lived about 56 years.
During the revolutionary war he stayed in his home in Germantown where Washington all resided during the war. His occupation before the Revolutionary War was being a very wealthy merchant which he inherited from his father when he passed away. When Hancock was first asked to be part of the Sons of Liberty he didn’t hesitate to say yes. His involvement in the war was signing the Declaration and......
