This particular experiment dealt with the population ecology of polar bears
located in Svalbard, Norway and was examined from the years 1988 to 2002 using live-
captured animals. It was concluded from this experiment that mean age of both females
and males increased over the study, litter production rate and natality declined and body
length of adults decreased. Associated with the dynamics of body mass could be tied to
cyclical changes over time. In terms of variation in body mass of both adult male and
female polar bears could be also tied to the Arctic Oscillation index. What was also
seemed to be tied to this Arctic Oscillation index was of course natality and litter
production rate. However, the variation in reproduction and body mass in the population
shows a relationship with climate change.
