Crossroads an essay on The Boast, by Allistair MacLeod.
In “The Boat” by Alistair MacLeod, the narrator tells readers of the path that has led him to become a university professor. Within the story the reader can also read about the roads traveled by the mother and father as well. Most of the choices made by the mother and father are made before the beginning of the story but through the narrator the reader can learn what those choices were and what impact they have had. Many of the decisions made by each of these characters are made due to situations forcing them to take others into consideration before themselves. In the story the choices that the mother, the father, and the son make affect not only themselves but also each other as well.
