When examining the cultures of ancient and modern Turkey, several differences appear in their social structure, how they conduct business, their scientific and technological advances and in their expression of art and religion.
Turkey has experienced influences from many conquering nations. In approximately 1000 BC, the Urartu people inhabited eastern Turkey near Lake Van. Their social structure included Kings who acted as rulers of the country. King Menua who ruled from 810 to 786 BC was responsible for building a 32-mile water canal to irrigate the Tushpa area to assist farmers. During this period they mastered hydraulics that controlled water distribution and this irrigation canal has been used in this region until very recently (Ancient Anatolia).
Today, the country has government officials who are elected into office. Women now actively participate in government and they have had a female head of state, which did not occur in ancient Urartia. Agriculture continues to......
