As a self-proffesed bibliophile I become uncomfortable when asked what my favorite book is, however if pressed I might answer “Pillars of the Earth” by Ken Follet. Similarly, when asked who my favorite author is I will compose myself, and after a short pause answer John Grisham. So it may come as a surprise that when I am asked which book has influenced my life the most, a seemingly harder question, I can immediately answer Atlas Shrugged, written by Ayn Rand. However, although Ayn Rand has, through her most famous work, impacted the way I view life far more than any other book and author, the impact she has had is not the one she would have wished to have, nor would she approve of how I act now.
I have read Atlas Shrugged twice, the first time a friend had recommended that I read it, and so dutifully I started through its numerous pages. As I continued through it I absorbed some parts of Ayn Rand’s philosophy of objectivism, I enjoyed the read greatly and......
