Gender inequality has been a concern in the work force, in education as well as in the home life. In many of Tillie Olsen’s works she shows the women’s side and fights to show the troubles and the stress women go through to keep a family functioning. In many sections of Tillie Olsen’s Tell Me Riddle, Eva reverts to her past, and what it was like raising a family in poverty. As expected, her past experiences and stresses making opening herself up to new relationships difficult. Another evident source of stress in Eva’s life is her husband. And despite her family’s effort to keep her illness a secret, the added stresses of traveling and their overbearing pressure to move into a retirement home, only make her more aware of the seriousness of her cancer and make her want solitude. Although some critics say that ultimately Eva’s death is a spiritual release, it seems to be more of an effort......
