Jacksonian democracy was created during antebellum America. The Jacksonian democrats attempted to increase the power of the poor lower classes while decreasing the influence of the rich and powerful. By ruling via a powerful executive, they attempted to destroy aristocracy in America. They saw government intervention in the economy as benefiting special interest groups and creating corporate monopolies, which only benefited the wealthy. The Jacksonian democrats portrayed themselves as saviors of the common people and supported individual liberties and equality, but only among white men; not among minorities.

When Jackson won reelection for a second term, his primary goal was to destroy the second US bank. Jackson and Jacksonian democrats believed that the US bank placed too much control into the hands of a wealthy few, who used their political power via the bank, in order to pursue their selfish goals (Doc.
