Responding to this challenge, this paper employs NPT's concepts of narrative probability and fidelity, with the method of rhetorical criticism, to interpret the HGTV text. My method identifies rhetorical devices that, through the persuasive nature of rhetoric, are employed to engage viewers and direct sense making. NPT guides my interpretation of the narrative sense-making suggested by these rhetorical devices. NPT assumes that HGTV texts are best viewed as story, and that stories are believable when they are logically consistent with stories known to be true in a culture; often they are deeply imbedded archetypal myths.
