I’ve been thirst for classical and touching feminine movies for a long time, since ‘Gone with the wind’, which shows a towering tour-de-force of feminine power, independence and spirit by Scarlet (Vivien Leigh).

‘Being Julia’, set in 30s London, is about a reigning but aging theatre actress Julia Lambert (Annette Bening) starts to find her career wearisome and plan to retire. At that moment she meets a young American, Tom (Shaun Evans), who refreshes her thus they begins an affair. When she realizes that Tom is just a young social climber whose real passion is a young actress, Julia begins to plot a delightful revenge.
Many people find ‘Being Julia’ a comedy. To me, it is kind of gloom. It’s sad for a woman who’s not sure about her identity. Not even Julia knows whether she is ‘being Julia’ or acting, or if there is a difference.
