It is the fifth leading cause of cancer death in women. Each year 25,000 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer just in the United States, which makes it the seventh most common cancer in women (1). Although the definitive cause of ovarian cancer is unknown, recognizing the risk factors, symptoms and acquiring treatment may help to prevent ovarian cancer.
Ovarian cancer is defined as cancer of the ovaries so it takes place in a woman's reproductive system. The ovaries make hormones and eggs, but when a woman reaches menopause, which is defined as the change of life, she produces fewer hormones and no more eggs. Ovarian cancer develops when new cells form when the body does not need them, and old cells do not die when they should. This results to a tumor, which can be benign or malignant.......
