What do change, innovation, purpose and vision have in common? They all focus on the future. They all try to manage something imaginable, yet not tangible.
Increasingly, organisational members have to face the future: managers have to lead through a change and their teams have to follow, employees shall be innovative in their jobs and managers are asked about the purpose behind their actions.
Against this background, the vision of an organisation and its members gains importance, respectively.
A vision may be described as an idea of future state: What is the target state of the organisation? What do managers want to realise? The value-add of a strong vision is not a “description” of a future, which the organisation has to realise.
