This must-see movie is an impressive, engrossing piece from director and screenwriter Frank Darabont who adapted horror master Stephen King’s 1982 novella Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption for his first feature film. Proving himself already a master of the craft, Darabont manages to create one of the one of the finest films of the 1990s.
Set in 1947 Ohio, Tim Robbins (Andy DuFresne) plays a bank vice-president who has been wrongly convicted of murdering his wife and lover, and is sentenced to two consecutive life terms at the notorious Shawshank Prison. In prison, DuFresne befriends a fellow convict by the name of Ellis Boyd (Morgan Freeman), commonly referred to as Red, “the man who knows how to get things”.
