A PLEA FOR SANITY AND HUMANITY

The global ecological crisis is no longer a matter of major concern solely among romantic nature mystics and outdoor sportsmen. There is a growing awareness among economists, natural and social scientists, as well as reflective men and women in the less technical professions that the quality of human life is dependent on the preservation of the Earth’s ecological balances. Many contemporary theologians also recognize a continuity between temporal and eternal life and assert that spiritual values enhance, rather than diminish, the importance of earthly existence.
Pope John Paul II issued a New Year’s message for January 1, 1990 titled “Peace With God The Creator, Peace With All Creation.” It stresses the relationship between peace, justice and ecological concerns.
