The 21st Century has experienced its first genocide. This genocide is taking place in Darfur, located in Sudan, Africa. This genocide started in 2003, resulting in the killing of 350,000 to 400,000 people in 29 months. In February 2003 two Darfurian rebel groups launched an uprising against the Khartoum government, because they were frustrated by the poverty and neglect. In response to the uprising, Khartoum government proceeded with arming and bankrolling militias against innocent people of Darfur. The victims of this genocide are the non-Arab or African tribal groups of Darfur, mostly the Fur, the Massaleit, and Zaghawa. Government officials of Darfur refused to do anything about the genocide, so the pain continues.
