Something that catches the eye quickly is the red door in the front of the house in the very first scene. This can have so many meanings to every character inside the house and can portray how the household is. It can even predict the future of someone like Lester, who is known to be dead in the very beginning of the movie. The door can represent the infatuation that Lester has for Jane’s friend Angela, or the infatuation Carolyn has for “King”, or even the infatuation that Ricky has for Jane. When the camera enters the house and gives a preview of every room, there is a scene in Jane’s room as she is getting ready for school. The walls of her room are painted red. This young woman’s room sums up her role in the movie. Out of all the characters she has a lot of what the color red represents.
