Abstract
Emotional maltreatment is one of the serious issues that the society is facing right now. It involves embarrassment, dishonoring, or other actions carried out over time that threaten or terrify a person. An individual who is emotionally abused can be put into depression resulting in disturbing and destructive behaviors.
In order to alleviate the issues about emotional abuse, most states in America have implemented a mandatory reporting of abuse and this of course includes emotional maltreatment. Mandatory reporting of abuse orders and encourages the people to account to local child protective services any suspicion of abuse or neglect. However, there are still confusions and problems bordering mandated reporting laws that cause frustrations to people.
This paper will carefully define emotional abuse and will further discuss the dilemmas on mandatory reporting and how we can improve the system.
