Lamb to the Slaughter starts off as nothing striking or remarkable. It’s merely the Maloney couple, a man and wife. Right away you find out that wife, Mary Maloney is six months pregnant with their first child. You also find out that the husband, Patrick Maloney, holds a high-ranking position at the local police station. On Thursday nights the couple apparently goes out to eat, so Mary doesn’t have dinner prepared when her husband gets home. But when she starts talking about getting him something to eat since he seems so tired, he tells her to sit down and has a talk with her. While it’s not entirely said what the discussion is about, her reaction and his last sentence lets you know the general topic of the conversation.
It seems Patrick is planning on leaving his wife. She doesn’t take the news exceptionally well and even tries to pretend that the conversation didn’t happen at all by getting up and going to the cellar to grab meat out of the freezer. She goes for a heavy......
