Humans have the most complex brain of any animal on earth. The brain only weighs about 3lbs but uses almost 20% of the body’s energy. The energy used by the brain is enough to light a 25 watt bulb and more electrical impulses are generated in one day by a single human brain than by all the telephones in the world.
The human brain is part of the central nervous system. It is located in the head inside of the skull. The brain is covered with protective matter called the meninges, which has three parts. The dura mater, which is the outer layer, is the toughest and thickest layer that connects to the bones of the skull. The middle layer, called the arachnoid has it name due to the web-like tissue it is composed of. The pia matter, which is the innermost layer, lays closely to the brain and is thin and vascular. This layer contains many blood vessels that bring oxygen to the tissues. Between the arachnoid and pia matter is the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The CSF acts like a protective......
